JCTECH Secures Taipei Metro Wenhu Line Digital Video Recording System Renewal Project, Driving Steady Revenue Growth

JCTECH, which previously planned and implemented Taipei Metro’s first-generation intelligent surveillance system, has in recent years continued to provide multiple smart solutions for the metro operator. The company recently announced it has been awarded the “Wenhu Line EMU Digital Video Recording System Renewal Procurement” project, which will further support steady revenue growth.

Safety and security for rail infrastructure and rolling stock have long been among the most pressing challenges for metro operators. To ensure passenger safety and secure transit operations, the adoption of intelligent technologies has become urgent. According to JCTECH General Manager, Mr. Cheng Chih-Cheng, “The first step in rail transit intelligence is digitalization, and the second is visualization. Early analog images, signals, and equipment must be upgraded to provide high-resolution digital images and signals. Then, previously invisible information about the operating status of train equipment inside and outside the carriage can be visualized and centrally managed through sensors and signal interpretation. Once these steps are completed, advanced intelligent technologies such as AI edge computing, cloud platforms, and big data analytics can be integrated to form an AIoT architecture. This intelligent transformation will empower metro operators in operational decision-making, safety, and management.”

Mr. Wu Shih-Wei, JCTECH Vice President of Sales, further explained, “We began by upgrading outdated in-carriage camera systems to high-resolution video systems. Based on customer requirements, AI behavior recognition can be incorporated later to enhance security levels inside the carriage. In addition, various in-carriage sensors and driver’s cab monitoring systems can be deployed to identify carriage status and track health in real time during train operations. Drivers can then monitor tire pressure, hydraulic pressure, door systems, power supply, and track conditions directly from the cab. All this information is also transmitted back to the operations control center for in-depth analysis and early warning, significantly improving operational and passenger safety. With long-term data accumulation, operators can also accurately predict equipment lifespans and optimize spare parts inventory management.”

The awarded Wenhu Line DVR renewal project will also help Taipei Metro test the “Onboard Battery Health Detection Module” and “Early Fire Smoke Warning Detection”, effectively enhancing safety for both rolling stock and passengers, and contributing further to Taipei’s smart city initiatives.
